Delta County Implements Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Effective August 8th
August 7, 2025 – Delta, CO
-------
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Delta County Sheriff Mark Taylor announced the decision to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions in Delta County effective Friday, August 8, 2025 at 12:01 am. Stage 2 restrictions will apply to all unincorporated lands within Delta County, state parks and wildlife areas and within the Town limits of any municipality within Delta County which elects by appropriate ordinance or resolution to have the provisions of stage 2 fire restrictions apply within their jurisdiction.
Due to the number of major wildfires currently burning across Western Colorado including the Leroux Fire here in Delta County, the forecast for more hot, dry windy weather combined with extremely low fuel moisture levels, and low humidity levels currently and forecast; Sheriff Taylor felt there was a need to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions to prevent human caused wildfires in Delta County.
The decision to implement stage 2 restrictions aligns with Montrose County, the Uncompahgre Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. While recent wildfires such as the Leroux Fire have been natural ignitions from lightning, the conditions across Delta County are extremely hazardous right now and additional steps are needed to prevent human caused wildfires from spreading and causing impacts to public safety.
Sheriff Taylor advised, “Delta County has not received the monsoon moisture patterns we normally see which bring relief to Delta County during the late summer months, instead we have had weeks of hot, dry windy weather and several wildfires which have strained our firefighting resources. Enacting Stage II restrictions is a way to help prevent human caused wildfires and protect the health and safety of residents across Delta County.”
Stage 2 restrictions implement additional safety measures to reduce the risk caused by human activity that could lead to a wildland fire.
Violations of Stage 2 restrictions can result in a citation by law enforcement and fines and the possibility of additional charges based on the conditions of the fire and damages caused.
Stage 2 fire restrictions will remain in effect until rescinded by the Sheriff.

April 1, 2025 President’s Report
Spring is here! Some of the ice is melting on the lakes and the bald eagles are feeding
on the fish breaking through the ice. The mesa does have some snow, but about half of
what you typically experience on the Mesa. April and May can still bring additional
snow, but the likelihood of reaching normal levels appears improbable. So, stay tuned
to your GMRC website (https://www.grandmesaresortcompany.com). Our company
manager, Jim Mackley will let us know when we should expect roads to be open.
This year has been challenging due to the fires in California. Their loss has impacted
Colorado. Many of our shareholders have lost fire insurance and finding one that will
cover fires is challenging. Our best advice is to keep trying. Our website lists several in
our area. Some shareholders have found companies that will cover fire if they also
cover your home, auto and recreational vehicles. As your board, we have been
challenged to review liability issues, our GMRC Bylaws, and our Policy & Procedures
manual as it relates to fire and indemnity clauses. (This is why you will see additional
changes to our Bylaws. Read the proposed changes carefully and become familiar with
them. Ask your board members why these changes are necessary.)
Save the date of August 9 the for our Annual Shareholder Meeting. Your board has been
working behind the scenes preparing for this meeting. During our potluck, we will be
sharing the history of the Grand Mesa Resort Company and showing several hundred
pictures from the early 1900’s. Bring you checkbook or cash as we will not only be
selling updated maps; you will also be able to purchase books and hats.
We will also be presenting our Forest Agriculture Management Plan.
Hopefully, we will have a representative from the State Forest Service in attendance.
We look forward to seeing you on the mountain!
